Albert "Big Al" Gonzales is a Mexican-American comedian and U.S. Marine Corps veteran whose career started in San Francisco's legendary rooms — the Punch Line, the Purple Onion — and now runs through Austin's Comedy Mothership, Kill Tony, and clubs across the country.
He's opened for Robin Williams, Ali Wong, Russell Peters, Sinbad, and a dozen more legends. Named Funniest in South Texas, he's appeared on GSN's Idiotest, Comedy Time, and ESPN Radio's Whiskey Neat.
Al also helped pioneer comedy in virtual reality at Failed To Render, the world's longest-running VR comedy club, alongside Kyle Render — bringing names like Howie Mandel and Kenan Thompson into the room for VR sets along the way.
A veteran who shows up for veterans, Al serves as Director of Comedy for the Austin Veteran Arts Festival and has performed overseas for the troops. He lives, works, and laughs sober in Texas.
Before any of this, Al co-hosted Set Up Punch — a weekly comedy show on San Francisco's Pirate Cat Radio with Drew Harmon back in 2010, mixing comedy news, clips, and stand-up culture talk, including an old sit-down with Marc Maron. No video exists. Just the tapes.
